Adult Reading Programmes

Most adults are able to master the skill of decoding words. But they are still slow readers or have to re-read text constantly to pick up meaning. Weakness in reading fluency and/or reading comprehension make reading exhausting and not at all enjoyable.

Neuron Learning's Program

Neuron Learning provides Fast ForWord software for home use. This program works on the underlying cause of reading difficulties in adults, namely an inability to read with automaticity.

If you need to concentrate to read your brain is having to multi-task. It has to devote resources to the actual reading AND also pull the meaning from the text. Our program automates the reading part, i.e., it makes the decoding sub-conscious as is the case with all good readers. This means:

  • You can read quicker
  • Reading is less exhausting
  • Your mind is free to focus entirely on comprehending the text.

Many children and adults do not master fluency or they do such an inefficient manner that drains brain power making reading comprehension an overwhelmingly difficult task. Our program, Fast ForWord, aims to provide automaticity in this critical first level reading skill.

Neuron Learning and Reading Comprehension

Good readers use metacognitive strategies. That is, they think critically about their own understanding as they go. To learn this skill though readers must first master the fundamentals.

Fast ForWord software targets auditory processing. Gains here translate into better listening, then more comfortable decoding and then much better reading comprehension.   Neuron's programme has another important goal: by taking the labour out of decoding we are able to make reading more engaging. This will usually result in more reading (in itself, a plus) and it will enable the reader, now free of the decoding workload (pushed down to a subconscious, automatic level) to think critically while reading.
