Fast ForWord Language to Reading software is a computer based suite of exercises that rapidly develops the cognitive skills that help students make the link between spoken words and reading.
Based on over 30 years of research on how the brain learns, Fast ForWord Language to Reading exercises use exclusive patented technologies to help students learn to associate language sounds with the letters of the alphabet.
Fast ForWord Language to Reading is part of the family of products suitable for primary school children.
Teachers work with participants who are struggling with reading and need to develop the cognitive and language skills necessary to become better readers. Fast ForWord Language to Reading consists of five exercises, which provide practice with basic speech sounds as well as the essential skills for learning to read.
The sound exercises present complex auditory information in a pre-word format, such as frequency sweeps, phonemes, and digitally enhanced speech sounds.
The word exercises present words either in isolation or within sentences with various levels of linguistic complexity. The words and sentences have been acoustically modified to stretch and emphasize the rapidly changing phonetic elements within natural speech. Individual progress is evaluated and reported in Fast ForWord Progress Tracker.
Fast ForWord Language to Reading develops essential cognitive skills in the context of language and reading including:
- Listening Comprehension
- Sound-Letter Recognition
- Phonological Awareness
- Beginning Word Recognition
- English Language Conventions
What to Expect from Fast ForWord Language to Reading

Learning MAPS
Fast ForWord is a life-changing intervention that produces a lasting effect on learning by developing and strengthening the essential cognitive skills.
Examples in Fast ForWord Language include:
- MEMORY Improves the ability to retain information both short and long term
- ATTENTION Enhances the ability to sustain focus on multiple tasks and ignore distractions
- PROCESSING Allows you to analyze images and distinguish sounds quickly enough to discriminate their differences
- SEQUENCING Places information in a logical order which allows for improved memory, attention and processing
Exercises
The Fast ForWord Language to Reading product consists of five exercises: one sound exercise and four word exercises. The exercises work together to help develop the understanding of basic speech sounds as well as the fundamental cognitive skills essential for learning and reading.
The sound exercise presents tonal sweeps using different frequencies, different sequences of multiple sounds, and different time durations. The following sound exercise is described in this chapter:
The word exercises present words, either in isolation or within sentences, with various levels of linguistic complexity. In some instances, the speech sounds have been digitally altered using patented methods (including selective intensity increases) to provide enhanced learning opportunities. The participant also works on graphemes, the letters that represent phonemes, and on visual tracking to strengthen left-to-right reading patterns. The following four word exercises are described in this chapter:
- Bug Out!
- Polar Cop
- Treasure in the Tomb
- Start-Up Stories
Trog Walkers helps improve organization and focus by presenting sound sweeps using different frequency ranges, different sequences of multiple sounds, and different time durations.
Bug Out! helps improve organization and focus skills, word analysis, phonological awareness, and working memory.
Bug Out! presents two by two, three by three, and four by four grids of bugs (tiles). Each tile has a word associated with it. The object of Bug Out! is to match all the words into pairs using the fewest clicks.
Polar Cop helps improve word analysis and organization, working memory, and focus skills. The participant also works on phonological awareness and visual tracking to strengthen left-to-right reading behaviour.
The object of Polar Cop is to identify a pronounced target word when presented in a series of pronounced and written words.
Treasure in the Tomb helps improve word analysis, organization, and focus skills. It also helps improve phonological awareness and working memory.
The object of Treasure in the Tomb is to match a pronounced target word when presented in a
sequence of two pronounced and written words.
Start-Up Stories helps improve listening comprehension skills, organization and focus skills, and English language conventions.
The object of Start-Up Stories is to listen to a story, and then answer questions and follow instructions related to the story.
The Scope and Sequence attached explains the tasks involved, the language and reading skills targeted and the cognitive skills developed, such as: Working memory and picture-concept associations from long-term memory, Auditory, visual and cross-modal processing , Auditory & linguistic processing, Sustained & focused attention.

IMPORTANCE OF PROTOCOL
Neuroscience research confirms the importance of frequency and intensity of activity to build and strengthen cognitive skills. Therefore, adherence to Fast ForWord product protocol is essential to delivering good results.
A consistent daily routine that allows for intense repetition will maximize the benefits of the exercises. The participant may take breaks between exercises, but not while an exercise is open.
The students are motivated through the use of points charts, immediate feedback, extensive progress reports and the teacher’s involvement.
Recommended Product Sequence
Fast ForWord Language to Reading is the second product in the Fast ForWord product sequence for primary schools. It builds fundamental cognitive skills of memory, attention, processing and sequencing (Learning MAPs) in the context of key language and reading skills, including listening accuracy, phonological awareness and language structures. After completing this product a student can move the Fast ForWord reading series.

Fast ForWord Progress Tracker
Fast ForWord Progress Tracker, allows teachers to monitor each student’s progress individually. Teachers can view progress charts (like the one displayed) detailed error reports that highlight priority areas as well as skills based summaries. Also teachers can see if the student in complying with the programme. We show exactly what work a student does, for how long, on what day and what is their points/participation.
We provide these and other online data-analysis product that displays longitudinal performance reports for a comprehensive participant progress review. Fast ForWord Progress Tracker also shows:
- Reports that track group and participant progress over time
- Flags that indicate when a participant may need intervention, and messages that suggest classroom activities to help improve a participant’s performance
- Administrative reports that compare performance for participant groups based on specific demographics
- Progress reports that can be automatically printed or emailed to principals, teachers, parents, and others on a weekly or daily basis
