I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you both on the excellent service you run in Cork. You run an organized but ultimately encouraging and caring environment which allows the children to feel confident in their learning ability. My two children have attended Neuron for the last 10 weeks and the improvement which I and their teachers have witnessed in both their reading and mental arithmetic has been outstanding. This has resulted in a considerable increase in their confidence levels and a huge reduction in the stress levels connected with homework.
A year ago, my seven year old boy could not even identify the letters from the 'Word Wall'. I had the kitchen walls covered with different size sheets of words in order to improve his word recognition!! This year, after 5 weeks of Neuron Learning, he is now able to read all words from the 'Word Wall', and is now, after 10 weeks, enjoying reading books on a shared reading basis.
My nine year old daughter has also showed outstanding improvement. Her reading was two years behind her age and she had significant problems with her 'working memory'. Her reading ability has showed improvement, but she requires more experience with reading to make up for all the lost years. The improvement in her working memory has been astonishing, even her teachers have commented on the improvementjn her memory tests since last year, ('she is not the same child'). She is also showing an amazing skill for mental arithmetic and problem solving.
Overall, I am absolutely delighted with their progress todate and I can't wait to see their overall improvement when they have finished the program. Even though the time and financial commitment is at times daunting, the results more than compensate for the pain involved!! If only every child in Ireland had the opportunity to undertake this program.
